Using only materials found in nature, such as flower petals, seashells or tree branches — even sand and water — "environmental artists" construct amazing eco-friendly artwork. For example, the above color wheel was created by artist Richard Shilling using autumn leaves and a circle of ash bark.
NATURAL RESOURCES DEFINITION. Anything that is found in nature that can be used by living things is a natural resource. This includes water, forests, fossil fuels, minerals, plants, animals and even air.
Natural materials should be an integral element of children's play. They are easily accessible and encourage children to learn about nature, foster creativity, imagination and discovery. When using natural materials within the environment it enables children to be observant and to use all their senses.
Environmental Awareness – Engaging with natural resources supports children to care for natural environments and develop respect for living things. Using flowers, shells, stones, fabric, baskets, art prints and other materials in the curriculum helps children to learn to appreciate natural beauty.
